Equal Rights Washington Endorses Socialist Party City Council Candidate Chelsea Rustad

14 September 2017

Chelsea Rustad for Tumwater City Council
Friends, I am excited to announce that my campaign for Tumwater City Council position 5 has been endorsed by Equal Rights Washington!

From their website:
"Equal Rights Washington (ERW) is Washington's statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) advocacy and community outreach organization. ERW's mission is to ensure and promote dignity, safety, and equality for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Washingtonians."

From the ERW endorsement page:
"Equal Rights Washington (c4) plays a role in elevating LGBTQ-related issues to the forefront during an election cycle. ERW’s non-partisan endorsement committee uses a specific set of carefully developed criteria in making our endorsements. We back candidates who have a track record of support for LGBTQ equality in a number of areas, and who advocate on behalf of the issues we support, such as trans justice, gender and racial equity, anti-bullying and banning conversion therapy for minors."
I am so proud and honored to have earned the endorsement of this incredible organization. Together, we will fight to protect the rights of every LGBTQ individual in Washington state, and I will ensure that LGBTQ voices in the city of Tumwater are centered and represented always. Thank you for the important work you do!

Democratic socialists in Maine see opening to make their case

16 July 2017

By Jessica Lowell
Kennebec Journal

AUGUSTA — The first thing that members of the Socialist Party of Maine want to make clear is that they support democracy.

That democracy stretches across all parts of life from politics to the workplace and everything in between.

On Sunday, the Socialist Party of Maine held its founding convention at the Viles Arboretum, during which they unified the Socialist Party of Eastern Maine and the Socialist Party of Southern Maine into a statewide party and started to map out strategies for running for office....

Meet the Activists Trying to Start a Socialist Party Chapter in Orange County

19 May 2017

By Gabriel San Roman
OC Weekly

"The Socialist Party USA in OC is only a local organizing committee at this point, a rung below becoming an official chapter. The national party was founded in 1973 and posits itself as the successor to the Socialist Party of America, who ran labor leader Eugene Debs for president from behind bars in 1920, an effort that earned nearly one million votes. This time around, the SPUSA ran a Emidio "Mimi" Soltysik/Angela Nicole Walker ticket for the White House last year...."

Three candidates vie for two Peterborough Library Trustee seats

4 May 2017

By Abby Kessler
Monadnock Ledger

"DiLoreto, who is a self described far-left socialist, announced his campaign for library trustee via a YouTube video that he posted to Facebook on April 14. It begins with an aerial shot of the town of Peterborough with the words “free” and “fair” popping up on the screen shortly after the video starts to roll. As a socialist, DiLoreto points to libraries as places that are operated solely off the public good, and points to the model as proof that socialist principals can work...."

Seeking broader change, a Peterborough socialist runs for library trustee

30 April 2017
By Ethan DeWitt
The Keene Sentinel
PETERBOROUGH — No one ever said the socialist revolution was going to happen overnight. Nor has any scholar pegged the seeds of the next social overthrow to Peterborough, New Hampshire.
But as self-described radical socialist Chris DiLoreto sees it, every movement has to start somewhere. And the 33-year-old progressive activist says he’s found the ideal launching point for a conversation, if not an uprising. Next month, at town elections, DiLoreto will compete for a seat on the library board of trustees.

It’s not quite the October Revolution. But for DiLoreto — who will compete against incumbents Ron Bowman and Marcia Patten May 9 for the two open seats — the election is a first step toward a broader goal: bringing the tenets of his ideology further into the mainstream....

"Speakers on behalf of a number of organizations including the Socialist Party USA, and the Green Party of New Jersey -- among others -- echoed the demands of 15 Now NJ.

'I think the current minimum wage is a joke,' said Pat Noble, national co-chair of the Socialist Party USA. 'I don't know why anyone could expect anyone to live on that. (A $15 minimum wage) would be a tremendous step in the right direction....'"

Social justice 'warriors' jump into Kurdish-Syrian struggle

24 March 2017

By Hollie McKay
Fox News
"According to Zach Medeiros, co-chair of Socialist Party USA International Relations, the endeavors of the revolutionists – both native and newcomer – are for the most part, to be admired.

'Hundreds of foreign, non-Kurdish volunteers have joined the YPG/YPJ in their fight, and a number of them have paid with their lives, while others have been unjustly prosecuted for their actions upon returning to their home countries,' Medeiros told Fox News. 'I think there is a certain element of naivety in this phenomenon, especially among those who don’t seriously consider what they’re getting into. On the other hand, it’s also an inspiring display of internationalism. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to put your life on the line for another people’s struggle....'"
