running the Socialist write-in campaign for governor.
'If everyone
owned the means of production, everyone would be able to supply

write-in running mate is Stephanie Gussin, 26, of Montclair, Essex
County, a photographic retoucher. Their campaign 'is symbolic,' she
says, 'but it's also a great opportunity for recruitment, and for

Dan LaBotz, Socialist Party U.S. Senate Candidate in Ohio in 2010, Again Sues Federal Election Commission

"On July 1, 2013, Dan LaBotz filed this new lawsuit against the Federal Election Commission in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. This is the second time LaBotz has sued. He won the first case, which is LaBotz v FEC, 889 F.Supp.2d 51 (September 5, 2012). In the first decision, the court ordered to FEC to re-examine his complaint against the Ohio News Organization, which sponsored U.S. Senate general election debates in 2010 and invited only the Democrat and Republican, and had no objective criteria explaining how candidates might qualify for the debates. The Ohio News Organization is a corporation, and corporations can’t contribute to candidates for federal office. So by hosting a debate with no objective criteria, the Ohio News Organization was making a corporate contribution to the two candidates that were invited, Rob Portman and Lee Fisher...."

New Jersey Socialist Party Sues to Enable Voters to Register as Socialist Party Members

"New Jersey is one of the 31 states that asks voters on the voter registration form to choose a party, or independent status. However, New Jersey has a very strange policy to determine which parties voters can join, on voter registration forms. For the last 93 years, the only qualified parties in New Jersey have been the Democratic and Republican Parties. Until 2001, no one could register in New Jersey except as a Democrat, a Republican, or an independent. In 2001 the New Jersey State Appeals Court ruled that voters must be allowed to register into parties that are not qualified, but which regularly place nominees on the ballot. Unqualified parties do that by submitting petitions for their nominees; the ballots contain the names of those unqualified parties, next to the names of their nominees...."

Few know this better than New Jersey activist Patrick Noble, who unsuccessfully ran for Freeholder in Monmouth County on the Socialist Party’s ticket in 2011. He later caused a minor controversy when, at age nineteen, he was elected to the Red Bank Regional High School Board of Education on an anti-capitalist platform. In 2001 the state appeals court ruled that it is unconstitutional to force all voters to register only 'Democratic', 'Republican' or 'independent.' In response, the state started letting voters register into the parties that had filed that lawsuit, but no others. The 2001 lawsuit had been filed by the Constitution, Green, Libertarian, Natural Law, and Reform Parties...."

It sounds like a Russian spy character that Severn Darden would’ve played in the ’60s. Soltysik said exactly what you’d think a socialist would say about right-wing nutjobs throwing around words like socialist. “The two party system and corporate America has such a strong stranglehold over the media that it’s largely Democrats and Republicans who are framing this conversation about socialists and socialism. As more socialists get an opportunity to speak for themselves, then I think we might be able to see the tenor change a little bit. ...."
