"On July 1, 2013, the New Jersey Socialist Party filed a lawsuit in
state court over voter registration. The state lets people register
into certain unqualified parties, but it does not let voters register
into the Socialist Party. The state has no objective procedures to
decide which parties have voter registration rights. Instead, the
state’s policy is to force any particular party to sue. Then, that
party gets registration rights.
The Socialist Party case is Noble v State, Mercer County Superior
Court, c86-13. The case has a status conference call on November 14.
It is hoped that one result of this lawsuit is not only to let people
register as members of the Socialist Party, but to nudge the state into
setting forth objective standards to determine which parties can have
voter registration rights...."

"Capitalism is the root of the current crisis this country and many countries are in," says Maynor Moreno, 19, a Rutgers physics major running the Socialist write-in campaign for governor.
'If everyone owned the means of production, everyone would be able to supply themselves and everyone else with everything needed to live a comfortable lifestyle,' the Marlboro, Monmouth County, resident adds.
Moreno's write-in running mate is Stephanie Gussin, 26, of Montclair, Essex County, a photographic retoucher. Their campaign 'is symbolic,' she says, 'but it's also a great opportunity for recruitment, and for spreading information.'...."

Dan LaBotz, Socialist Party U.S. Senate Candidate in Ohio in 2010, Again Sues Federal Election Commission

"On July 1, 2013, Dan LaBotz filed this new lawsuit against the Federal Election Commission in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. This is the second time LaBotz has sued. He won the first case, which is LaBotz v FEC, 889 F.Supp.2d 51 (September 5, 2012). In the first decision, the court ordered to FEC to re-examine his complaint against the Ohio News Organization, which sponsored U.S. Senate general election debates in 2010 and invited only the Democrat and Republican, and had no objective criteria explaining how candidates might qualify for the debates. The Ohio News Organization is a corporation, and corporations can’t contribute to candidates for federal office. So by hosting a debate with no objective criteria, the Ohio News Organization was making a corporate contribution to the two candidates that were invited, Rob Portman and Lee Fisher...."

"New Jersey is one of the 31 states that asks voters on the voter registration form to choose a party, or independent status. However, New Jersey has a very strange policy to determine which parties voters can join, on voter registration forms. For the last 93 years, the only qualified parties in New Jersey have been the Democratic and Republican Parties. Until 2001, no one could register in New Jersey except as a Democrat, a Republican, or an independent. In 2001 the New Jersey State Appeals Court ruled that voters must be allowed to register into parties that are not qualified, but which regularly place nominees on the ballot. Unqualified parties do that by submitting petitions for their nominees; the ballots contain the names of those unqualified parties, next to the names of their nominees...."

Few know this better than New Jersey activist Patrick Noble, who unsuccessfully ran for Freeholder in Monmouth County on the Socialist Party’s ticket in 2011. He later caused a minor controversy when, at age nineteen, he was elected to the Red Bank Regional High School Board of Education on an anti-capitalist platform. Like many Leftists, Noble, an avowed opponent of war and the two major parties, has often found himself misidentified as a supporter of President Obama...."
