The Socialist Party USA is returning to its roots — in Milwaukee.
The party’s national convention takes place Oct. 16–18 at the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts, 926 E. Center St., Milwaukee. Organizers have reasons for choosing Milwaukee beyond tourism amenities and discounted rates on rooms or airfare.
The party has messages to deliver about Milwaukee and Wisconsin
politics. An organizing statement says, “The city of Milwaukee has been
taken over by neoliberal policies that have turned Milwaukee into
something completely unrecognizable to the way it once was.”
The statement continues, “The state of Wisconsin as a whole has been
taken over by an extremist right-wing Republican Party, led by Scott
Walker, succumbing to nihilism on jobs, state economy and public
education, housing, health care, LGBTQAI and women’s issues. This is why
we socialists are coming to town.”
Organizers wanted to convene in a city that was once a hotbed of socialist activity....
